Paul Lawrence has an earnestness and simplicity in his sound that is so refreshing! Moments come to life through his storytelling and you just want more. ”

Born and raised in southern Wisconsin, adopted by Minnesota and Iowa, Paul has performed his original folk-country-blues on stages from Minneapolis to Taipei. Back in the USA after twelve years in Taiwan, Paul is excited to share his new songs with English-speaking audiences. Paul's music ranges from folksy ballads to bluesy boot-stompers, all while consistently delivering exceptional vocals and finely crafted lyrics.

Paul grew up surrounded by music; his mom played the organ at church and everybody was always singing. He has been influenced by classical, gospel, blues, country, rock & roll and traditional folk music. Recently, he was particularly moved by the indigenous singers of eastern Taiwan. All of these sounds filter through Paul's dynamic tenor voice.

Paul has twice played Taiwan's largest outdoor market/music festival, ‘Ocean Home’ (海或 瘋市集). Paul has performed at major festivals such as MayJam (Tainan, Taiwan) and Duluth Homegrown Music Festival (Duluth, MN). In August of 2024, Paul will perform at the Porcupine Mountain Music Festival (Ontonagon, MI) for the first time. Other notable shows include a month-long residency (June, 2024) at the 331 Club (NE MPLS), The Meyer Barn (St. Joseph, MN), and Al Lucken's “Music on the Porch” summer series. Recently, Paul has played shows with Ryan Young (Trampled by Turtles), The HIGH Rev (Pistol Whippin Party Penguins), and Kailyn Pelerin (Breanne Marie & The Front Porch Sinners), among others.

Paul’s new album, “Taiwan Winter,” was recorded at NeonBrown Studios in Crystal, MN, and features a dozen of Minnesota’s best folk and Americana musicians, including Ryan Young, Bill Quinn, Carrie Schneider, and more!

This album was made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature's general arts and cultural heritage funds.

"Paul is an excellent wordsmith who sings beautifully, and creates both entertaining and meaningful songs. His energy is infectious. A  fun and memorable performer.”  -Mike Fischer, Chippewa Valley Blues Society
